Report on Ulla.com review

Ulla.com appears a great online dating portal. This website claims to be a matchmaker. So it is not about casual dates, but real love. On the landing page, we see an image of a good-looking woman. This website looks authentic. At first sight, its transparency seems commendable. And we do not see any explicit content on the landing page. Our first impression of the site is good.

The portal offers little information. On the homepage, we read about free registration and a large number of members. But hard facts are missing. We do not know how many users are registered here. We also have no idea whether costs will arise after registration. There are a lot of aspects of the site we are in the dark over. We either have to do some research on the internet or register on this platform.

As a general principle, inadequate information is not a good sign. In our experience, it is the first hint of an untrustworthy website. As mentioned before, there is a lot of content on the landing page but no vital information. The operator of the platform is Apricot Digitals LLC, which is based in Sofia, Bulgaria. As we see things, this location is not a good sign either. In the past, we have reviewed a number of dating companies based there, none of which proved trustworthy.

Is Ulla.com a rip-off?

Yes, the online dating portal Ulla.com is a rip-off. Costs will arise after free registration. A user will need premium membership to chat. But the subscriptions on offer are cheeky traps. And several hints warn of fake chat. After registration, we received a lot of messages from other users. These messages are supposed to encourage us to purchase premium membership. It is not possible to read these messages with basic free membership. We could not see the messages’ content. This is definitely evidence of a trick.

This website also claims to offer free registration. But this is actually not completely true. During registration, trial membership is offered. Well, it is possible to skip the relevant payment. However, there might be a few customers who fall for this. Trial membership is offered even before registration is completed. So it is possible to purchase a subscription without seeing the terms of what’s on offer. Generally speaking, this is not a good sign. In our experience, this means there is a subscription rip-off.

Trial membership is the real trap. It lasts for one day only. However, all subscriptions on this website will be renewed automatically if a user does not cancel them proactively in time. In this instance, cancellation in time is not physically possible. The deadline for termination is 72 hours in advance. So, it is not possible to cancel trial membership in time. This form of membership will inevitably be renewed as normal premium membership with high costs. Moreover, we found reviews from former users. They explain that the operator generally makes termination difficult.

Notices of termination will be declined or ignored. So the deadline for notification of termination will be missed again and again. A user has to pay a lot of money for a subscription which is useless. According to reviews on the internet, all profiles on the site are fake. There is no chance of meeting a real person here. We can only agree with this. Our experience led us to the same conclusion.

Registration on Ulla.com

The process of registration is easy and completed in just a few steps. This website does not require a lot of information from its users, which is actually not a good sign. Now, this platform claims to be a matchmaker. A matchmaker generally needs quite a lot of information to arrange a suitable match. This is, however, just one of several suspicious points.

First, we indicate our gender and the one we are seeking. This website allows gay and heterosexual matchmaking. It is possible to register as a woman or man. And it is possible to search for either of these gender categories. We then enter our age and location. We do not have to provide our date of birth: our age is sufficient. Finally, we enter a valid e-mail address and password. This is all the information needed to create a profile here.

We do not have to upload a profile picture. And it is not compulsory to provide any further information about ourselves. Other users will know where we are located in the US and how old we are. Further details are unavailable. It is, however, possible to upload additional details after registration. But it is also possible to skip this input of information. In our view, this is a bad sign. First, this lowers the quality of the members´ pool. Second, it makes this website less than reliable. Remember – this site claims to be a matchmaker.

What’s more, we received an offer of premium membership before we were able to add more information about ourselves. It is possible to purchase trial membership before seeing the actual website. This seems very suspicious. It is a sign of a scam with a subscription trap. However, it is possible to skip the payment option and continue to the members´ area. Moreover, we did not verify our account.

Members’ area on Ulla.com

The members´ area of the website has a great first appearance. We see a lot of profiles. It is possible to see all the profile pictures. Additionally, we can visit all profiles to see their personal information. Now, we have still not verified our account. Nor have we provided one single piece of useful information in our profile. First, this entails high risk for other users. Spammers and scammers have an easy ride on this website. Second, we should not logically receive any attention. We are new to this website, and our profile does not even have a profile picture.

Before we mention various important aspects of this site, we would like to describe its general appearance. The design of the platform is good. Thanks to its well-designed appearance, we have a good overview of the site. Navigation is remarkably easy and intuitive. We are able to visit all areas of the site. At the top of the portal, we browse through the members´ area. We can group users by new members or members currently online. We can also use a detailed search function.

But there is a major problem. Within minutes of acquiring membership, we receive our first messages. Remember: we did not provide any information about ourselves. So logically we should not attract this much attention. But we receive messages by the minute. We also receive notifications that other users have liked or visited our profile. All this can of course only be fake.

But although we receive a lot of messages, we cannot read them. If we want to read or send messages, we have to purchase a premium membership. This is definitely a clear sign of a rip-off. As we are not able to read the content of the messages, they incline us towards taking out a subscription. However, there is another big problem.

The site operator does not mention moderation in the terms and conditions. Fake chat operators and fictitious profiles are not admitted. So legal proof of fake chat is missing. But the high volume of messages we receive is proof enough.

Costs on Ulla.com

Registration on this online dating website is ostensibly free. But actually this guarantee is only partly true. Even as early as during the process of creating a profile, trial membership is offered. Generally speaking, this is a clear sign of a scam with a subscription trap. We advise you never to purchase a subscription before seeing the actual offer, and especially not to do this on a website that appears as slippery as this one. Additionally, beware of automatic renewal. Payments can be made with a credit card only. Other options are not available.

Trial membership is offered during registration and later on too. This kind of membership runs for one day and costs 0.99 USD. Actually, this offer sounds great, especially as we have already received a lot of messages from other members. So we could purchase this form of membership for just one day to reply to our matches and arrange a date. But this is precisely what the operator wants. The operator seeks to lure new members into a trap.

Our research shows trial membership is the real trap. It runs for one day and will be extended to a pricey premium membership afterwards. It is not possible to avoid this. The deadline for termination is, according to the terms and conditions, 72 hours in advance. So the very duration of the subscription itself is too short for a user to terminate it in time.

There are a few more types of premium membership available. Premium membership for one week costs 0.56 USD per day. And premium membership for one month costs 1.38 USD per day. Finally, premium membership for three months costs 0.77 USD per day. But the costs are displayed confusingly for a deliberate purpose. The method used by the operator makes the subscriptions appear cheap, but they are not. In summary, the three-month premium membership option costs 69.30 USD.

Furthermore, the normal premium forms of membership are difficult to cancel. The site operator makes the process of termination very complicated. Notices of termination will be declined or ignored. As all subscriptions are renewed automatically if the user does not terminate them in time, this is a cheeky trap too. By the way, the site operator is notorious for this kind of stratagem. On the internet, we found quite a lot of reviews about the company and its cheeky tricks.

Conclusion from our Ulla.com experience

The online dating portal Ulla.com is a rip-off with a subscription trap. There are also numerous indications of fake chat. We received a lot of messages right after registration. These messages must be fake. We did not provide one single item of information about ourselves. Nor did we upload a profile picture. And it was impossible for us to read the messages we received. To read and send messages, a paid subscription is needed. These messages are obviously fake and intended to lure us into a scam.

Legal proof of fake chat is missing. The operator does not mention fake chat operators or fictitious profiles in the terms and conditions. But this company is not remotely credible. The site operator is Apricot Digitals LLC, which is based in Sofia, Bulgaria. This company has a bad reputation. And we found proof of a rip-off with a subscription trap. Trial membership cannot be terminated in time and will be extended to normal premium membership afterwards. Finally, the cancellation of any subscription is difficult, as the operator ignores or declines notices of termination.

So I had a situation where they had three people from different sites I thought saying they needed a credit card for proof of identity. And they got two of my credit cards the one got all funds returned and the other I had to pay a small amount but the other transactions were not put through. I feel it was fraud to have three people from same company asking for information etc, and not identifying as one company.
