Report on TenderMeetup.com review

At first sight, TenderMeetup.com seems to be an ordinary and harmless dating website. It targets tender people, who are looking for someone that might just be like the oh so sweet girl featured on the landing page. “Tender” implies serious, dedicated, charming and loving. That is precisely what the site offers from the start in its presentation. The colors are soft and sweet, and there are little hearts all over the place. However, shadows suddenly loom over this unicorn landscape. We notice the name of the operator who runs this site, at the bottom of the landing page.

AlterWeb KFT, a company from Csomád, in Hungary, has recently showed up in our reviews, and they were no “Care Bears.” Sadly, our experience of TenderMeetup.com is no different. We discovered that the tender chicks will indeed remain unicorns forever, and that the only thing that awaits users on the other side of the fence is a cheeky subscription rip-off. Most of the profile in the members’ area, if not all, are fictitious. They are created by company compensated employees and controlled by chatbots. Their purpose is to lure users into paid services.

To contact other members, users must first sign up for a premium membership, which renews automatically. Naturally, this is not a scam per se, as many online services work this way, but from the experience of former users, the operator is known to reject or simply ignore cancellation requests. The most insidious part is that to better deceive new users, the site first offers a 1-day trial subscription at an unbeatable price. That might sound like a great offer. But the deadline for termination is too short to cancel the subscription in time, which inevitably leads to an expensive trap.

Is TenderMeetup.com a rip-off?

Since registering is free on TenderMeetup.com, we decided to create a dummy profile to bait the chatbots and learn a little more about how the scam works. We also carefully read the site’s terms of use and did an online search for past users’ feedbacks and experiences. Chatbots, written evidence of a rip-off in the TOS, users’ reports, it all came running in like a bat out of hell.

To call TenderMeetup.com a rip-off is indeed an understatement. The member area page had not even finished loading when the chat window buzzed with notifications from horny chicks. They said they were so sorry that we had not uploaded any profile pictures yet because they were craving to jump on our apparatus. To be fair, they even said it more bluntly. Now, how tender is that?

It does not even matter that the slightest hint of sense is missing here, or that the profile of the person in question mentions that she is “shy”. It hardly takes any more than that to realize that these messages are in fact automatically generated by a computer. In the words of the operator, as can be read in the TOS, these messages are intended to “stimulate interaction between members”, which the site calls “Promote my account”. As we see it, they are only meant to push users towards paid services, to scam them into subscribing.

The operator of the site will offer a cheap 1-day trial membership for $0.99. How cheaper can it get? What might sound like a great deal at first, is actually precisely where the actual trap lies. All the subscriptions offered will extend automatically if not terminated in time. The deadline for termination is 72 hours, which sounds fair for a normal membership. However, the trial membership runs for one day only, so how could it be terminated “at least 3 days prior to the renewal date”?

Registration on TenderMeetup.com

Registering on TenderMeetup.com is free and only takes a few minutes. Users are asked for their age and location and must provide a valid email address. After they have entered the validation code they received by email, they can enter the members’ area. During the registration process, we are still in Tender land, and there is no mention of upcoming costs. It is going to get a lot cruder right after that.

Members’ area on TenderMeetup.com

The first thing we noticed, when entering the members’ area, were the flashing invitations to upgrade our profile. They were everywhere. The page featured dozens of profiles of young women who did not really look like they were ready to get married. When we wanted to see more, we were redirected to the subscription page. When we wanted to reply to the first automatic message, we were redirected to the subscription page. In fact, we could not do anything without going through the subscription page.

Conclusion from our TenderMeetup.com experience

Unfortunately, TenderMeetup.com is anything but tender. It is certainly not the free online dating site it claims to be, either. In fact, it is quite the opposite and is nothing but a despicable subscription rip-off. Our review reveals that the site uses fake profiles and chatbots, which send computer-generated messages. They entice new users into an auto-renewing subscription. This is simply impossible to terminate, before it renews at a much higher price. Of course, the chances of finding real connections here are zero.

The site is run by AlterWeb KFT, a disreputable company from Csomád, in Hungary. We have crossed paths several times in our past reviews. They use the same dirty tricks on all the many websites they operate and should be avoided.
