SexFlirtDates.com advertises that they have over two million members. This number is completely irrelevant, as most profiles here are “automated profiles”. The operator of the site, Master Focus Ltd, mentions this in the terms and conditions. Unfortunately, they forgot to mention that the site is not just a fake chat scam, but also a subscription rip-off.
Automated online accounts
In the terms and conditions, we found evidence of a fake chat scam. We read that a user may interact with “automated online accounts”. These bots will send messages to any new user to stimulate them into a chat. However, chatting here is not free, and users must pay for a membership if they want to communicate with other members, even if these members are fake.
The following note can be found in the terms and conditions
You may interact with content generated by, or with the assistance of, automated online accounts (“Bots” or “Automated Profiles”), where none – or substantially none – of the actions and posts of that Automated Profile are the result of, or arise in connection with, a natural person’s profile or otherwise User Content.
The age verification scam
However, this site is not only a fake chat scam. In our research, we found out that the site uses a very dangerous and not so common scam. New users of this platform are invited to verify their age and unlock all premium features free of charge. However, to verify their age, the user must provide their credit card details. Although it is written that the user will not be charged for this, in the fine print we found out that this is a subscription rip-off.
The free membership will turn into a paid membership after 48 hours with a price of 39.95 USD per month. This is a subscription rip-off, since the information about this is difficult to find and it is written in a very small font. We know from experience that most customers will not realize the scam until it is too late, and they have been charged already.
