The online dating website LokaleTreffen.com advertises free registration on a simple landing page. Not much more information to find further. The promise to be just one step away from love animates the new visitor to a quick and free enrollment. After that, you can contact hundreds of members in your neighborhood. But this is misleading information. First, the customer has to pay a small one-time fee for a monthly membership; otherwise, you are not able to chat at all. Additionally, all the lovely women are paid employees hiding behind fictitious profiles.
We investigate further and find another hint of a rip-off. First, your local city is detected by your IP and displayed. A common tactic to suggest the site is localized. It's not in 99.9% of the cases.
Research online for LokaleTreffen.com yields multiple reviews that describe the website as a subscription scam and a rip off with fake profiles. The operator does not mention bogus member profiles on the portal itself, nor in the terms & conditions. But we found plenty of testimonies during our research that confirm the moderated chats.
The site is operated by the London based company, Porticato Media Ltd., that owns many online dating platforms. The bad reputations proceed them.
As stated in the terms and conditions
"All paid subscriptions automatically renew for the period and price that you signed for a subscription. You may cancel the auto-renew feature to avoid recurring charges, but you must act at least three days (that is, 72 hours) before the renewal date."
LokaleTreffen.com offers three days, seven days, and 1, 3, or 6-month subscriptions. However, you must cancel three days in advance. For the three day subscription, this means you will always get charged no matter if you try to cancel.
Once the operator has obtained your billing information, it is difficult to cancel the membership because of automatic renewal.
