The front page says all that you need to know about the validity of this site. Just above the Sign up button is a tiny text that mentions something called "Online Cupids." When a dating site uses a term like this, we know that something is fishy immediately. This term is one of a few well-known terms that dishonest dating sites use.
Clicking on this button sends you to their terms and conditions where they admit they use fantasy profiles operated by the Site for entertainment and compliance purposes. They claim that they use this interaction to encourage full participation in the Site's services. However, we know that this is just a poor excuse for creating fake profiles and sending you fake messages to make you think that you are going to have a real online dating experience.
From the terms and conditions
"FOR AMUSEMENT PURPOSES ONLY
THIS SITE USES FANTASY PROFILES CALLED ONLINE CUPIDS®: You understand, acknowledge, and agree that some of the user profiles posted on this Site may be fictitious and operated by the Site or its contractors. Messages sent from our Online Cupids® service may be automatically generated with no human involvement, and Online Cupids® messages and/or correspondence may be generated by third-parties hired or contracted by Us. You understand, acknowledge, and agree that no physical meeting will ever take place between you and the individuals providing our Online Cupids® service, and that the exchange of messages between you and the Online Cupids® profile is for entertainment purposes..."
Once you have finished registration, you find out that the only way to view profiles, send messages, have access to live video chat, or watch cam shows is to buy a premium membership. They tempt you into this by offering a 3-day trial membership for just $1.95. But, if you continue reading, you will see that you will be charged the full monthly price of $29.95 after the three days. This monthly charge will continue to come out of your account automatically until you cancel!
Not only do they trick you into long term membership, but you will also be spending your hard-earned money to talk with employees of the company or computer-generated bots. There is not a real person around to be found.
The operator of HookupCougars.com is located in Nicosia, Cyprus. When companies like this are located overseas, this is just another sign of it being a scam. By being outside the US, they can escape jurisdiction if there is ever a problem with the law.
These are enough signs for us to know that this a rip-off and an untrustworthy company.
