BookOfMatches.com is a free online dating website developed back in 2002. The operator is Internet Initiative Partners LLC, a company from Carol Stream, Illinois. As outdated as it looks, we were pleasantly surprised. We could see many authentic profiles, and the comments we found online were mostly positive. In fact, the negative ones accusing them of a fake chat service weren’t too believable.
The members’ area on BookOfMatches.com had a surprising but realistic number of online profiles. Furthermore, the profiles seemed real. The bios were adorably human, and the pictures were definitely realistic. We believe it should be possible to find someone real to go on actual dates with on this site. This was quite unexpected considering that the website is completely free to use. We can safely say this website is not a rip-off.
The website offers a few contact options to choose from. Of course, users can message people directly. In this case, the option is called “send e-mail.” Users can also initiate a friendship by including people on their friends list. Then, they can create their own news bulletin that their pals will be able to read. In a more modern language, we may call this a personal blog that will be shared among friends. Likewise, users can read their friends’ bulletins. This is quite a fun way of getting people to know each other better.
As you can see, our impression of BookOfMatches.com was generally positive. However, we needed to make sure our experience reflected other users’ opinions. We found a few reviews online, and only one person accused them of being a rip-off. Interestingly, the one negative opinion we found had clearly been planted by a competitor. They were obviously trying to keep visitors away from this website.
However, quite a few users praised the operator, which seems to be quite effective at removing fake profiles. The most believable criticism had to do with usability issues. This is very likely a problem at times considering that the design is rather outdated.
